Open Water Diver

The PADI Open Water Diver course is divided into three segments: Academic training, confined-water training and open-water training. Academic training gives you the basic principles and knowledge you need for safe and enjoyable diving.
Confined-water training takes place in the swimming pool and will teach you the basic skills of diving. The open-water training allows you to demonstrate your mastery of these skills and practice them in a typical diving situation. These segments will be taught to you in five modules; each module has both an academic training and a confined-water session.
For each module there are specific knowledge objectives and skill performance requirements that need to be learned and completed before participating in the next module. This course has been structured so you may progress according to your individual ability.
This structure assures that you understand each step before you continue to the next level in developing your knowledge and skills. You will then participate in four open-water dives, which allow you to apply what you have learned during the knowledge and skills development segments. During these open-water dives, you will also be given an orientation to some of the local conditions and environments you will be diving in once you complete the course.
Certification
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded either the PADI Open Water Diver certification card (minimum age 15 years) or the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification card (minimum age 12 years). The PADI Advanced Open Water program actually consists of two courses: The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course and the PADI Advanced Plus course. Both courses develop your underwater skills and give you a taste of speciality diving activities, but the scope and duration of each varies to accommodate different interests.
In either course, you will make two “core,” or required dives: a navigation dive, and a deep dive. You will also make “elective” dives that you choose with the guidance of your PADI instructor.
Elective dives to choose from are an altitude dive, a boat dive, a drift dive, a dry suit dive, a multilevel dive, a night dive, a search and recovery dive, an underwater naturalist dive, an underwater photography dive and a wreck dive.
The number of elective dives you make depends upon whether you’re taking the Advanced Open Water Diver course or the Advanced Plus course.
Advanced Open Water Course
In this course, you’ll make the two core dives and three elective dives – a total of five dives. You can complete the Advanced Open Water Diver course as quickly as two days, making it a good choice for divers interested in moving rapidly to the PADI Rescue Diver program or other courses with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver program as prerequisite.

Rescue Diver

The PADI Rescue Diver program is divided into knowledge development and open water training. The knowledge development portion develops the principles and information you need for preventing and handling dive emergencies, with topics including self rescue, diver stress, diving first aid, emergency management, equipment problems, and rescue and assistance procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims on the surface and underwater knowledge development is usually handled through independent study with the PADI Rescue Diver Manual.
This knowledge will be reinforced with the PADI Rescue Diver Video and a series of classroom sessions. During open water training, you’ll apply the knowledge you’ve learned as you develop rescue skills. As you master rescue techniques, you’ll learn to adapt what you practice to suit the situation, your physical attributes, those of the victim and the nature of the diving environment.
The PADI Rescue Diver philosophy says that there’s no single “right” way to perform a rescue; rather, the program provides a “tool box” of techniques and knowledge for you to draw from in an emergency. You’ll practice these skills first in confined water and then in an actual diving environment.
Course Prerequisites
To enrol in the PADI Rescue Diver course, you must be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, or the equivalent. “Equivalent” means that you must demonstrate proof of certification beyond the entry level and be able to document at least 20 dives with experience in night, deep, and navigation diving.
To complete the requirements for the PADI Rescue Diver certification, you must also have completed the PADI Emergency First Response course (or other sanctioned CPR course) within the previous three years
Certification
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded either the PADI Rescue Diver certification card (minimum age 15 years) or the PADI Junior Rescue Diver certification card (minimum age 12 years).
Either credential attests to your completion of training and your ability to meet the standard requirements established by PADI. Professional dive store personnel, boat operators and other professionals in diving will ask to see your certification card before they will allow you to participate in diving activities or rent scuba equipment.
What Diveline Offer
The Rescue Diver Course takes four days and is usually held over two weekends. The first weekend we will cover the academic portion of the course and also develop your rescue skills in the confined water.
The second weekend we will move to an open water site to put into practice what you have already learned and develop your skills further; this culminates in a scenario where you will demonstrate your ability as a Rescue Diver.
