Our Training RIBs

R.Y.A. Powerboat courses are completed on our 6m Coded RIB.

A Humber 6m with a 90 hp Mariner, six seats with an instructor ratio of 1 to 3.

We operate from the Suffolk Yacht Harbour on the river Orwell in the busy ports of Felixstowe and Harwich, so lots of shipping and buoys to keep an eye out for!

Courses:

Powerboat Trip

A fun packed exciting trip around Felixstowe and Harwich Harbours! See the sights and sounds of the UK’s largest container port and hear some of the history of one of the oldest ports in England. Where was the first recorded sea battle in British Naval history? When was H.M.S. Ganges Opened? What has Erwarton church got to do with Anne Boleyn? Where was the first British sea plane launched? Find out the answers to these questions and lots more onboard!

Duration: 1.5 Hours
Minimum Age: 8
Suitable for: Families or individuals

R.Y.A. Advanced Powerboat Course - Day and Night Courses

Duration: 2 days + night exercise.
Minimum Age: 17
Course Content: Candidates will be taught how to safely plan for a coastal passage using both traditional charts and electronic navigation. Search patterns, rough weather handling, night navigation, emergency procedures, helicopter rescue and safety equipment are some of the topic included.
Prior knowledge: Candidates should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate with a thorough knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of the Day Skipper Shore based Certificate.
Candidates are also required to hold a First aid and a VHF Radio operator’s certificate.
