All our dive kit requires proper servicing for optimum safety, here is some advice for you to consider.
When should they be Serviced
Regulators
Should be serviced at least every year or 100 dives, whichever the sooner. This is vital to ensure that your main life support system is working to its optimum. If kit is used for teaching or rental it needs to be serviced much more frequently, this is why renting kit is often quite expensive as these costs need to be covered. A service will strip and clean all parts, replacing all necessary o rings and service spares in accordance with manufacturers recommendations. It will also include a detailed inspection to prevent problems developing. As an example a members regulator was serviced recently and found to be flooded with water. If left for any period this would have damaged the interior of the regulator. Finally your regulators will be tuned to the optimum settings.
Additionally if you are tempted to buy second hand kit the first thing you must do is get it serviced by a qualified service technician.
BCD's and Dry Suits
These also need regular maintenance. There has been more than one fatality in recent years that could have been prevented by regular dry suit maintenance. To help keep the cost down we have top quality servicing in our own manufacturer approved test and repair centre all at reasonable costs. Do not neglect having your BCD serviced, again a vital bit of kit that needs maintenance.
Cylinders
New regulations have been brought in regarding the servicing periods for cylinders, more are expected shortly regarding cylinder valves to meet European standards. In brief we recommend you always check your cylinder is in test to avoid disappointment when a dive centre refuses to fill it.
You will need a visual inspection every 2.5 years
You will need a hydrostatic test every 5 years
The following services should be part of your annual planning:-
Regulator Servicing
BCD Servicing
Hydrostatic and visual cylinder testing
Cylinder repainting
O2 cleaning
Dry suit alterations including seals, boots and zip replacement.
Computer and watch battery replacement.
