The lake has been a developing sanctuary for fish and lush plant life since 1945 when the former brickworks closed down. In January 1985 Ian and Pauline Forster, the current owners, bought the lake and 30 acres of surrounding land and have developed a full range of ancillary facilities. With varying depths from 1m to 22m, it is considered by many divers to be the best diving centre in the country.

Stoney Cove, 21st & 22nd July 2008, £80 (£60)

Stoney Cove, Leicestershire - probably the most dived site in the UK is some 100 miles from Cheltenham. has been operating as a public dive training facility now since 1978. In the last 20 or so years, the facility has been given a nice new access road, has a new training building going up right now (due to open early in 2003) and has also had numerous attractions dropped in to the waters. Among the favourites are the Wessex helicopter, the Nautilus sub and the Stanegarth, a 1910 steam-powered tug boat. Future attractions will almost certainly be appearing, the first of which is likely to be a giant Buddha statue. We all look forward to seeing that one being dropped in!

2008 UK CLUB TRIPS
Stoney Cove July 28th
£20 per person includes entrance fees
A day at Stoney on a Monday.
As many dives as you want throughout the day.
Transport, food, air fills and equipment hire not included.
Perfect opportunity for recently qualified club members to dive where they are familiar with. There will be a Divemaster or an instructor available for accompanying junior divers (10-12 years) for a small fee.
Plymouth July 11th to 13th
Weekend trip diving the Scylla, James Eagan Layne and some enjoyable reef dives.
4 Dives £90 (2 dives per day)
Fuel, food, air fills and accommodation not included
Driving down on the 11th diving 12th and 13th travel back on the Sunday afternoon

Swanage September 5th to 7th
A 2 day trip to dive the likes of the Kyarra, fleur de Lis & reefs.
Travelling down on the Friday afternoon, staying in a bed + breakfast; 2 dives on the Saturday, 1 dive on Sunday, driving back Sunday evening.

Leave Diveline between 6am and 7am; 2 dives either 2 wrecks or a wreck and a drift dive, driving back afterwards.

Dry dive at the London Diving Chamber Date TBC
Dry diving is exactly as it sounds, a Hyperbaric chamber is the perfect environment to test a diver's ability at depth, but in the safe, water-free environment that it offers. DCI often results from a diver's inability to handle nitrogen narcosis, Currently the PADI depths of the Advanced Open Water course are, in our opinion, not deep enough to really experience narcosis, So if a diver, for the first time, does experience that surreal feeling they can panic and risk DCI. A dry dive can prepare a diver mentally for what can happen underwater, A dry dive is also a great opportunity for technical divers to test their computers or Dive Cameras.
On the day the divers will come as a group to LDC, They will then:
- Fill in a self-declaration medical form. Any ticked YES must be covered by a dive doctors clearance form. (These can be done at LDC with enough notice).
- PLEASE NOTE: Divers must be over 18 years of age for insurance reasons.
- Sign the usual waiver form.
- They will then enter the chamber accompanied by a LDC tender.
- The maximum depth of a dry dive is 50 metres.
- Divers will breathe the surrounding air which will slowly pressurise to the agreed depth.
- Clothing will be provided by London Diving Chamber.
- After staying at the maximum depth for the agreed time, divers will then be surfaced slowly, deco stopping as necessary
- On coming out of the chamber LDC will sign and stamp log books.
Please remember that like a wet dive, a dry dive does carry a risk of DCI, a minimal one as the environment is so controlled. Please report any abnormal symptoms immediately.
